yellow-green : green-blue :
red-yellow :
not-quite-white :
blue-red
My cat has yellow
Eyes. But not according to
Mum. She says they're green

At Waulkmill Bay, there lies somewhere between
What could be greeny-blue or bluey-green,
That unforgettable and vibrant hue
Of sea in sandy bay, not green, not blue.

Orange – vibrant bedfellow
For red and yellow,
Between whose
Primary hues
You manifest your form;
On the one hand, yellow – warm,
Cheerful, too much so
Bordering shallow;
And on the other, sassy
Red, loud, brassy,
Often just so over the top.
But you, orange, possess of each a drop:
Cheerful yellow's lemon zest,
And sultry red's strawberry sweet, the best
Of both worlds, I avow.
So bathe me in your sunshine now!

The subtle, not-quite-white
Of old-fashioned cricket flannels;
The rich sumptuous luxury
Of Regency interiors;
And the crowning glory
Of the scones and jam
At afternoon tea.

Twixt blue and red
Lie violet and indigo,
To which I might thread
Mauve, purple, lavender, and oh
So many subtle hues.
Yet where end
The blues?
How far can extend
The boundary,
Before blue is indigo,
And indigo I may see
As violet, violet as red, I just don't know.
